How to get more website traffic

At HubRunner, we focus on building and managing great custom websites—and that’s a great place to start! There are many ways to get more website traffic so you can sell more products or increase the number of sales leads you are getting.

Advertise on Search Engines

Advertising on search engines like Google and Bing is a great way to get visitors to your website. One big upside is that you control exactly how much you spend—this is a very predictable way to get website traffic. This type of advertising is called “pay per click” or PPC advertising, because you pay for each time someone clicks your ad (not for how many times it is displayed). You select a list of phrases, and when somebody searches for one of those phrases, your ad can show up.

Whether or not your ad shows up depends on how much you are willing to pay in the event that someone clicks it (if you’ll pay ten cents but your competitors will pay two dollars, your ad probably won’t show up very often) as well as how relevant the content of your ad is to the phrase searched (if you want your ad for cleaning services to show up for the search term “pizza parlor,” your ad probably won’t show up very often). Use Social Media

Social media is a great tool to get more website traffic, and it’s not as complicated as it may seem at first. Basically, there are two steps. First, build a sizable following on one or more social media network. Second, share high-quality content with your audience to get more website traffic. So, PPC advertising might work better to get more traffic right away, but social media is a great long-term approach to building sustainable website traffic.

Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Organic SEO is another great way to get more website traffic, but it takes a while to get results. Organic SEO is the process of improving your website’s ranking in the results that search engines show to users who search for a given phrase. The more competitive a given phrase, the harder it is to rank toward the top of the results.

Use Referring Websites

Referring websites are other, third-party websites that can drive traffic to your website. These include sites that aggregate customer reviews (such as Yelp.com), blogs, news outlets, and more. Even posting ads for your services on sites like Craigslist can help drive more traffic to your website.

Networking, Word of Mouth, and Offline Advertising

While digital channels like the ones described above are great ways to get more website traffic, don’t forget the tried-and-true, real-world ways to get more traffic! These include going to networking events and handing out business cards, happy customers telling others about your business, and even offline advertising like direct mail, print advertisements, outdoor advertising, and more.
