Austin Corner: SCORE

Austinites, looking to start your own business? Whether you’re looking to go out on your own, or simply want a fresh perspective into your small business, then SCORE is a great resource. SCORE provides one-on-one business assessments as well as a carefully selected mentor to assist you with your business needs. Finally, starting a business does not have to be such a daunting task.

“SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and maintain their businesses.”

SCORE is comprised of mentors that address each business’ unique challenges. SCORE mentors are experienced managers, executives, and entrepreneurs who “volunteer their experience and knowledge to help small business owners and entrepreneurs achieve success.

In addition to providing financial guidance, leadership advice, and mentorship, SCORE also hosts business-related events in the area where attendees can grow their professional networks as well as their business know-how. February’s classes include “Customer Relationship Management” and “How to Write a Business Plan” workshops. Take a look at the rest of their upcoming events here.

“What’s even cooler is SCORE offers free (yes, free) business coaching from mostly retired business people from various areas such as marketing, legal, accounting, etc. This is an amazing resource for anyone serious about starting a business.” —Michelann Q.
